X-Mouse Button Control 2.13
- Quote
Postby phil »
I've just released X-Mouse Button Control version 2.13
Version 2.13 generally is a bug-fix release but there are a few new features too, including more Windows 10 support. You can find the latest version (including the portable version) in the usual place, on the downloads page (mirror).
For a complete list of changes, check out the version history.
The user guide (included in the installation, and English only right now) can also be found here or here (mirror). I have updated the user guide for the first time in years for v2.13!.
PLEASE NOTE: Do not post feature requests in this topic. If you want something to be added, please create a new topic where your issues or ideas can be discussed.
Once again, many thanks to everyone who has helped me beta test this release, and to all those providing the language packs/translations.

FYI: I had to re-create the portable distribution because I broke the 64bit version in there (by putting the wrong files inside the wrong folders). If you had downloaded the portable version prior to the time of this message, please download it again.
Thanks,
Phil

I have just released a minor update (2.13.1) to fix the usual little bugs found when releasing and also hopefully to fix some crashes reported in 2.13 with the new bugtrap crash reported.
The changes are as follows:
- Find Application window displays the incorrect description.
- Scroll Pages instead of Lines does not work.
- Fixed crashes reported in XMBC (via the new BugTrap reporting system).
- XMBC Resets swap button status on start-up.
- Scroll UP/DOWN actions not working in 2.13.
Thanks,
Phil

Hi, I was notified of th3e new update; initiated it but the update could not close down the running x-mouse control. Log offed Windows 7, re-entered, and check for updates (right click), and install went normally.
HOWEVER, all my settings are gone, is there any way to restore them or must I go through them again so as to set them again as if I had just installed it for the first time??
Thanks

During the update, it should create a backup of the settings file.
Find the folder where the settings are stored (easy option, hold CTRL and left click the XMBC icon in the system tray). See if there is a backup setting file (XMBCSettings.backup.pre-2.13.1.0.xml) if there is, exit XMBC delete XMBCSetting.XML and rename the backup to XMBCSettings.XML.
If the backup file is not there than Im at a loss as to what else to suggest (do you have any other backups?)
Let me know how you get on.
Thanks,
Phil

Great - good thing I made the decision to create backups during upgrades . I will have to try and figure out how it managed to loose the settings though - thats odd!

Phil, I think the problem arose from the fact that when I clicked "Update" the update process returned a message that it could not close down X-Mouse, I then logged off (not restarted) and did the update again.
In any case, I appreciate your input, and of course this program.

Scroll up/down doesn't work also in 2.13.1.
BTW, where to download older versions?

I'm sorry but a simple "does not work" is really not very helpful - unfortunately I'm not a mind reader! There are tools built into XMBC to help provide some more detail - debug logging for example.
But even a little more detail - in what way does it not work (I tested it here (just now) and it was working as I would expect). We also have a workaround in 2.13, to use "Mouse wheel up/down" instead of "scroll up/down".
Rather than just go get an older version, how about helping figure out why its not working to the benefit of yourself and everyone else. If that's too much trouble then I can provide links to earlier versions on request, or you can figure out the URL for your self, its really not that difficult...
2.12.1 : https://www.highrez.co.uk/scripts/downl ... on=2120100
Thanks,
Phil

Scroll Window UP and DOWN doesn't work for me either. I have them assigned to Mouse Button 4 (Down) and Button 5 (Up).
I have the XMB config window open on a separate monitor so I can see that it recognizes that I'm pressing buttons 4 and 5 but the windows just won't scroll.
I mainly use this feature in Firefox but I have it set to the default profile so it should register in all programs, or at least those that I don't already have a profile for, I assume.
Just setup a new profile for Firefox for scrolling the window. No scroll.
BTW: V 2.13.1
*** Update ***
Mouse Wheel UP/Down works fine. Thanks for that. I thought that was for when you clicked the middle mouse button.
Chuck.

Sorry, I just noticed that even Mouse button 4, and 5 are mapped to scroll page up/down, doesn't work anymore and I didn't have a clue how to take or send debug log. Remapping to mouse wheel down/up did fix the problem for now. Thanks.

I would like to try and figure out why this is not working for you, to capture a debug log, you can turn on debug logging in advanced settings (it will turn itself off next time you run XMBC). Once turned on, close all the XMBC windows (OK/Apply the change) and then press the buttons that are remapped to scroll up/down a few times in a window like internet explorer/some browser/anything that should scroll and does not.
Then you can open the log file (also in advanced settings or in the right click menu on the XMBC icon in the system tray) and send me the contents here (paste into a post or send the file as an attachment via PM or email it directly to me!).
Thanks,
Phil

I just updated to 2.13.1, and have a problem. I use X-Mouse to make buttons 4 & 5 scroll up and down, respectively, and to make the center button (wheel) open the Control Panel. The center button still opens Control Panel, but buttons 4 & 5 do nothing. I've reset defaults, and then re-did my settings. I've reinstalled the mouse driver, and even tried to change it (with disastrous results). I uninstalled X-Mouse, re-installed it, and it still doesn't work like it did.
I wouldn't bother you with this problem without first making more attempts on my own, but my scroll wheel has a mechanical failure, leaving me without the ability to scroll at all. Anyway...
Dell laptop, Windows 10 Home 64-bit, Intel Core i3 2330M @ 2.20GHz Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology, RAM 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24), HID compliant.
Yeah, I'm completely dependent on my X-Mouse controls. This failure is driving me to drink.

What action are you using to scroll up and down - there are two (scroll up/down and mouse wheel up/down)
One works as expected and one does not - so you might like to try the other one.
I thought this was fixed in 2.13.1 but maybe I need to look into it some more. The debug log would be useful
Thanks,
Phil
