Overview
The Department of State’s Division of Building Standards and Codes provides a variety of services related to the development, administration, and enforcement of the Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code and Energy Conservation Construction Code. These Codes provide for the construction of safe, resilient, and energy efficient buildings throughout New York State.
Current Building Codes of New York State
The Code
The Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code (Uniform Code) and the State Energy Conservation Construction Code (Energy Code), are contained within Title 19 of the New York Codes, Rules and Regulations (19 NYCRR). 19 NYCRR incorporates by reference publications including the current model code books as published by the International Code Council.
Regulations
Various other parts of 19 NYCRRcontain regulations related to the Uniform Code and Energy Code. They cover topics such as administration and enforcement of the code, variance procedures, training standards, standards for manufactured housing and factory manufactured housing, Council Rules and Regulations, truss construction identification, SEQR, etc.
